Find Your Center

In the midst of civil unrest we may sense an internal unrest, or unease, mirrored within us. A shorter fuse, emotional waves, unstable grounds, being bombarded by information of varying degree confusion and clarity – the list of the things that can push us out of our center can go on and on. The uncertainty that holds us in its embrace is here to teach us a lot. How do we respond to these challenging times? What is being confronted and what slips under the surface into the chambers at the depths of our being? What are we willing to make peace with?

Our attitude often depends on our energy level. When our energy level is taxed, emotions can take over just as quickly as weather moving in overhead. Continuity, consistency, stability, finding your center, your core, the ground of your being - where you find yourself more rooted and better equipped to stand steady in the strong winds of the world we live in – is key right now. Do what it takes to stay motivated.

We’re challenged to give up our imagined sense of security and move toward an inner contentment. External circumstances are going to continue to test our inner peace. This is an opportunity. But we have to foster and care for our energy system, our entire body/mind complex. Once we are centered, it’s a lot easier to tackle the taxing uncertainties of our times.

So, when I say, “continuity of practice”, choose something that nurtures you but also something that reveals where you’re stuck. We have to be willing to work with ourselves if we want to see real change in our communities and society at large. We are also the ones to make the change. And the best part about it is that if you take the responsibility wholeheartedly and live the most balanced version of yourself, it will not only have ripple effects onto those beings around you, but you will also enjoy the ride a bit more (even when things are crazy and mixed with all kinds of emotions).

When we get stuck in certain energies that are supposed to move through us (emotions), we confuse them for being states that we project upon ourselves, as if they are part of who we are. These states, built upon emotions that generally want to move through, are not meant to stay internalized. Depression for example, its foundation is built upon energies that have gotten stuck. The complexity of our organism may also require a multi-faceted approach to tackle the energies that are stuck. No method is better than any other. But we have to tackle these things first will a willingness let things move through, and not cling to the content of our mind or emotions, in order for it to do so. There is action that needs to be taken, even if it is purely energetic. Sometimes it’s a mere mindset shift, a change in attitude. Simple breath awareness, noticing the depth or shallowness of your breath, applied throughout the day, is a very insightful practice. What is important to realize, is that by taking the time to care for the system that you’ve been gifted, you’re actually serving humanity at large.

So, find what serves you and your system. Be honest with yourself. Show up for yourself. Nurture, challenge and pay gratitude to ALL that arises. What shows up in your world is teaching you what you need in the moment. Be open, receptive, and hold an open heart to everything you hear and see around you. Try to put compassion before judgment. Hold space for people and opinions that you have a hard time respecting. Do the inner work to make peace and forgive whatever is yet not resolved within you. When we dare to take the reins like this, by doing the inner work, by paying attention and choosing certain behaviors rather than others, we are part of the solution.
